ANDREW W.K.: I Don't Care If People Think I'm An Idiot
July 30, 2002Despite getting a lot of negative feedback from the crowd on Ozzfest 2002, ANDREW W.K. recently told Launch that he's not too concerned with what people think of his performance or his music as long as they leave with a smile on their face.
"If people are excited about what I'm doing, I don't care why," Andrew stated. "If they're excited because they think I'm an idiot, great. If they 're excited because they think the music is fantastic, I'm fine. If they're excited because the music reminds them of when they were 10 years old or if makes them think of what they're going to be like when they're 80 years old, as long as they're happy I would never turn down a reason. Any reason is the right reason to be happy, especially if it's about this. This music was designed to make people have fun and I'm not going to quantify or qualify what is the right way or wrong way to have fun. Having fun your way is the only way."
He added, "I think this is just music and it's happening now and into the future, so I'd say that it's this: It's not about a particular time or place. It's music designed to be exciting and fun and about melody and music and notes and things like that and yelling and screaming your head off and doing a dance. That's more than enough."
In other news, ANDREW W.K. will have a new song new song, tentatively titled "We Want Fun", on the soundtrack to the upcoming film Jackass. Tours of Japan and Europe and a fall U.S. run opening for a yet-to-be-announced headliner are all in the works.
